It's the most wonderful time of the year. No, not the holidays - we're talking about UGG shoe season, when lovers of comfortable footwear pull out their boots and slides from this beloved brand. If you're lucky enough to own a pair of UGGs, you know how great they feel on your feet. But do you know how to clean your UGG boots to keep them looking brand new?
Although best known for its iconic boots and slippers that include heavenly sheepskin materials, UGG boots remain the "it" shoe for the fall and winter seasons. Originally introduced in 1978, the brand became popular at the turn of the last century, becoming the comfortable go-to for everyone from middle school girls to celebrities like Oprah. However, while comfortable and warm, the material of many UGG boots can discolor in harsh weather conditions such as rain and snow.
How to clean UGG boots when they get stained or wet
A representative for the brand told us that the DIY approach is preferred, which is why UGG has curated its own cleaning system that includes protectant sprays, branded cleaners and conditioners, Shoe Renew fresheners, bamboo-handled brushes and suede scrubbers.
Step 1: Apply Protector Spray to UGG Boots
"We recommend that customers apply the protectant spray by spraying the entire shoe until it is wet, not soaked, and allow it to dry naturally for 24 hours away from heat or sunlight," UGG told Instyle. "Afterwards, the suede brush included in the kit also helps restore the original look of the sheepskin."
Step 2: Erase Stains From UGG Boots
Got dirt? When cleaning UGG suede or sheepskin uppers, the brand recommends first using an eraser to remove any dirt or visible scuffs.
After that, UGG instructs customers to "wet the surface of the boot with a clean, wet sponge and apply a small amount of UGG Cleaner and Conditioner to the sponge". To remove the stain, scrub the dirty area with the sponge and solution in gentle circular motions. Any remaining residue can be removed with a clean, damp sponge and damp shoes should be kept out of the light/sunlight for a full 24 hours.
Step 3: Refresh Your UGG Boots
Once your shoes look fresh and clean, you want it to smell fresh and clean as well. To keep your shoes odor-free, the kit also includes a Shoe Renew freshener that can be sprayed on as a final step.
